KVM stands for Keyboard/Video/Mouse so KVM over IP is a virtual keyboard, video and mouse controlled through the network interface. It allows the user to connect directly to his server and gain full control not only from the operating system but from the whole boot process. KVM over IP interface is using a separate network adapter and IP. The user typically connects through a Java enabled web interface to KVM's IP to gain control over the physical machine. This allows changing BIOS settings, re-installing OS, etc. In addition certain KVM interfaces allows attaching an external ISO image emulated as a CDROM, USB or Floppy Disk Drive.
